Art is a victim of the third highest rate of trafficking worldwide, with an annual market worth nearly $7m. This figure, however, can only be an estimation: the illicit and secretive nature of trafficking makes it hard to ascertain precise statistics. And it is an issue which is widespread: art theft affects developing and developed countries to the same degree.
